Appointment of new Executive Director, Aboriginal Languages Trust

The Aboriginal Languages Trust has appointed respected Aboriginal leader, Clare McHugh as its new Executive Director, Minister for
Aboriginal Affairs Don Harwin announced today.
Ms McHugh, a proud Gamilaroi and Dhungutti woman, will lead the work of the Trust in revitalising and nurturing Aboriginal languages across
NSW.
Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Don Harwin said Ms McHugh joins the Aboriginal Languages Trust at a pivotal time as it embarks on community
consultations on its draft Strategic Plan.
“Ms McHugh brings a wealth of leadership experience and community knowledge to the role that will assist the Trust in building the strong
foundations needed to see Aboriginal languages grow and thrive in NSW,” Mr Harwin said.
Aboriginal Languages Trust Board Chairperson, Jason Behrendt said the Board looks forward to working with Ms McHugh to ensure the Trust
achieves the aspirational goals contained in its Strategic Plan.
“The Board is excited to have someone of Clare’s experience and community standing in this critical role. We look forward to working with
her to support, empower and partner with Aboriginal communities, and to connect with government and other organisations involved with our
languages,” Mr Behrendt said.
Throughout 2021, the Trust will be offering stakeholder groups a range of opportunities for consultation on their draft Strategic Plan.
