Healing

Healing forms part of the NSW Government approach in working with Aboriginal people in NSW.

The NSW Government is the first government in Australia to incorporate healing into its Aboriginal affairs policy through OCHRE and its response to Unfinished Business reparations for the Stolen Generations.

The role of Aboriginal Affairs NSW is to facilitate conversations for interested Aboriginal communities and Aboriginal community organisations to engage with government and non-government agencies to:

  • Increase understanding of intergenerational trauma and Aboriginal perspectives on healing
  • Identify local and regional issues and opportunities to improve the way government and non-government organisations work with communities and develop trauma informed, culturally inclusive responses on priority issues identified by Aboriginal communities
  • Build partnerships and support for healing
  • Promote Aboriginal languages and cultural revitalisation in NSW.
