Local Decision Making Aboriginal Regional Alliance Gathering 2018

A recommendation of the 2016 Local Decision Making Partnership and Collaboration Conference was further investment in communication among regional alliances to strengthen relationships and increase understanding of Local Decision Making. Acting on this recommendation, the Local Decision Making Aboriginal Regional Alliance Gathering was held over 20-22 March at Aanuka Beach Resort in Coffs Harbour.

Hosted by the NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Regional Alliances (NCARA) and supported by Aboriginal Affairs NSW, the gathering brought together representatives of regional alliances from across NSW to strengthen collaboration and communication between the regional alliances by creating a forum for exchanging best practice models and showcasing alliance’s successes and aspirations.

Participants were given the opportunity to strengthen their capacity and contribute to the future of Local Decision Making through the delivery of practical workshops led by leading Australian organisations; the Jumbunna Institute of Indigenous Education and Research and Amnesty International.

The gathering was facilitated by Lillian Gordon, a proud Aboriginal woman from Nyiampaa (Ngemba) and Gamilaroi country in Brewarrina in Northern NSW and Wajaana Yaam Adventure Tours conducted cultural tours, showing delegates the sites of beautiful Gumbaynggirr country.
