The NSW Labor Government is delivering on its election commitment to begin consultation about a treaty process with applications open for three commissioners to undertake this work.
The NSW Government is committed to a 12-month consultation process with Aboriginal communities on their aspirations for a Treaty framework or other formal agreement making process, to be led by three dedicated Commissioners.
Aboriginal businesses are being invited to a special Aboriginal Business Roundtable event in Wagga Wagga on Tuesday 23 April 2024 from 12.30pm to 4.30pm.

The NSW Government’s landmark Stolen Generations Reparations Scheme will be open to survivors from today, July 1.
Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Sarah Mitchell said the opening of the scheme, the centrepiece of the NSW Government’s $73 million package of support for the Stolen Generations, is an important milestone on the journey towards healing for those affected.
“The NSW Government established the scheme in recognition of the real and profound impact historic government policies and practices had on Aboriginal people,” Mrs Mitchell said.
“This Government is committed to working closely with Stolen Generations survivors and their representative organisations and the scheme provides an apology and monetary reparations to Stolen Generations survivors from NSW.”
It is part of a comprehensive response that also includes a healing fund to address intergenerational trauma and direct funding for survivor organisations.
The Scheme, which will operate for a period of five years, follows the General Purpose Standing Committee 3 report into Reparations for the Stolen Generations in New South Wales.
The NSW Government accepted the vast majority of the report’s 35 recommendations, including the establishment of the Stolen Generations Reparations Scheme and a Stolen Generations Advisory Committee, which will advise the Premier and Minister on issues affecting survivors, their descendants and communities.
The NSW Government is also working with key stakeholders to improve access to family records for Stolen Generations survivors and their families.
