Parliamentary Event

Overview of the day

On 11 October 2017, Aboriginal Language stakeholders were joined by Members of the Legislative Assembly and other dignitaries to mark the introduction of the Aboriginal Languages Bill into Parliament. For the first time, Aboriginal community members were allowed onto the floor of Parliament to speak in language via a message stick in a ceremony where Lore met Law.

The Aboriginal Languages Bill 2017 was assented on 24 October 2017.
