$8.7M to support Aboriginal owned businesses and communities close the gap

Applications for the NSW Government’s Closing the Gap grants are open with nearly $9 million available to turbocharge Aboriginal businesses and provide additional support for Aboriginal communities.

Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Ben Franklin said the $8.7 million program will support communities and businesses to prosper by creating more jobs, better services and improving life outcomes for Aboriginal people across NSW.

“I’m incredibly pleased applications for these grants are open and I encourage all eligible Aboriginal businesses and community organisations to apply,” Mr Franklin said.

“These grants are designed to grow the number and capability of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and scale-up community-controlled organisations to reach new sectors, locations and markets.

“Funding is available to eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses operating in NSW for projects that will strengthen the capability of those organisations to win NSW Government contracts, sell goods and services to the NSW Government and/or grow their businesses.

“Community grants can be utilised for a variety of activities to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisations deliver more services and serve their communities with culturally centered and safe programs.”

The grants program is available in two streams: Closing The Gap Strengthening Community Capability Grants and Closing the Gap Strengthening Business Capability Grants.
