$10 million to drive Aboriginal business growth

The NSW Government will invest $10 million to help Aboriginal businesses across the State diversify and grow.

Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Ben Franklin said the funding would support tangible actions to expand the Aboriginal business sector including networking and mentoring, leadership and recognition, and working to address accountability and transparency.

“The Liberals and Nationals in Government are committed to investing in outcomes for all Aboriginal people and communities to prosper and thrive across our State,” said Mr Franklin, who announced the new funding at the Aboriginal Business Roundtable.

“This funding will deliver on key learnings from our previous Aboriginal Business Roundtables and support the growth of the Aboriginal business sector, which we know is a powerhouse for Aboriginal economic prosperity and self-determination.”

Aboriginal small business ‘I Am, Movement’, founded by Tanika Davis, is a platform for families and communities to navigate Aboriginal child therapy and build skills.

Ms Davis attended this year’s Aboriginal Business Roundtables to gain a broader outlook on how small businesses can make an impact with their expertise, rather than their size. She appreciated that other family-run grassroots businesses faced similar challenges.

“It’s nice to connect with people in the small business sector, particularly being online and family-run, to understand how we can reach government representatives and access support. You think as a small business owner that you aren’t making an impact but having attended the roundtables, I realise I am!” Ms Davis said.

The luncheon is one of a series of Aboriginal Business Roundtables organised by Aboriginal Affairs NSW (AANSW) to bring Aboriginal business owners together and discuss challenges to their success with government representatives and industry leaders.
