$6,500 grant for Aboriginal artists at the 2016 Tamworth Country Music Festival

Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts Troy Grant, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Leslie Williams and Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today announced a $6,500 grant for the Aboriginal Cultural Showcase at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

The Aboriginal Cultural Showcase is now in its ninth year and provides invaluable opportunities for the region's Aboriginal artists and musicians.

The Tamworth Country Music Festival draws thousands of country music fans from across the country and it's a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talents of up and coming Aboriginal artists, Mr Grant said.

This grant will help promote Aboriginal artists at the festival and give them an unparalleled opportunity to achieve artistic recognition.

Minister Williams said there is a massive variety of performers during the festival and these Aboriginal artists will help provide an important cultural element to festivities.

I commend the work of Arts North West for its work to help Aboriginal artists achieve their dreams.

Mr Anderson said the grant would help to ensure that the 2016 Aboriginal Cultural Showcase will have a curated opening ceremony, music concerts and cultural workshops, as well as a Reconciliation Concert on the final day.

Our iconic festival is broadcast both regionally and nationally providing both first time and experienced Aboriginal artists with the chance to show their talents to a broad audience.

I look forward to seeing Aboriginal musicians, performers and craftspeople displaying their talents throughout the festival.
