NSW commitment to Closing the Gap

The NSW Premier signed the new National Agreement on Closing the Gap in July 2020, along with the Commonwealth, states and territories, and the NSW Coalition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peak Organisations (NSW CAPO).

In planning for this new Agreement, governments agreed to do things differently, and look to the future rather than focusing on past failures.

The NSW Government will work with NSW Coalition of Peak Organisations (CAPO NSW) and other Aboriginal organisations including The NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Regional Alliances (NCARA) to jointly develop a NSW Implementation Plan by July 2021. The NSW plan will guide the implementation of the National Agreement in NSW.

Shared governance arrangements have been agreed and work has begun on the development of the NSW Implementation Plan.

The NSW Government will provide reports on its progress to the public, and hold regular reviews to track progress.
