NAIDOC Grants 2015

15-Mar-2015

Welcome to the Aboriginal Affairs NAIDOC 2015 grants page.

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians.

NAIDOC Week is held in the first full week of July. It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society. Many communities in NSW also choose to conduct NAIDOC activities outside of the designated week in July when weather conditions are more comfortable.

The national NAIDOC Theme for 2015 is "We all Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate". This year the theme highlights Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' strong spiritual and cultural connection to land and sea. The theme is an opportunity to pay respects to country; honour those who work tirelessly on preserving land, sea and culture and to share the stories of many sites of significance or sacred places with the nation.

Applications for NAIDOC Week funding will be accepted from 9:00am, Monday, 16 March to 5:00pm, Friday, 17 April 2015.

Applicants are invited to apply for funding in the order of $500 - $1,000, and for more significant events up to $3,000 can be considered.

There is limited funding for the program and all applications may not be successful.

Applications should be made online at http://aboriginalaffairs.smartygrants.com.au/

The online system is user friendly, registration is simple and the completion of our online forms is supported by instructions, hints and a question guide.

We encourage and prefer that applicants apply online using this system. If there are concerns or difficulties about applying online or you require assistance, please contact Aboriginal Affairs staff.

If you have previously registered for SmartyGrants, you can use the same details and there is no need to register again.

Please ensure that you save your application regularly. You do not need to complete the form in one session. Your application is not officially submitted to us until you 'review and submit' it.
